Arriving for the first time in Airds, Bindi Cole was bristling with a bunch of ideas. But after spending several days there meeting the locals and driving around the streets she settled on the perfect idea: A pop up portrait photo booth.
Having spent a bit of time growing up in public housing, Bindi is well aware of the unique community that is fostered in these estates. The distinct charm of neighbours whose doors are open, spending time on the porch, is a stark contrast to the neighbourhood she now lives, with the shutters down and virtually no activity during the long work hours of the day.
Reflecting on this, Bindi struck on the idea of setting up an open access pop up portrait place within the small shopping village in the centre of Airds. Supplementing it with a box of dress ups – setters, robes, crowns, and all things royal – the idea is to create an ironic juxtaposition of monarchy and land ownership against the impending relocation of much of the estate.
Participants will be able to take home a printed portrait of themselves or one with their family and friends.
This is bound to be a lot of fun!
