PROJECTS 2014

Lachlan Anthony & Benjamin Forster – Suburban Monument
Suburban Monument is a mobile lighting installation that transforms public space within the Airds precinct through the nocturnal application of intensely saturated monochromatic light.

Darren Bell – Sanctioned Stereotype
Large-scale video projection of photographs of local families and individuals set on the outer skin of a house that dispel and demystify clichéd social housing stereotypes.

Rebecca Conroy – word press site/blog
This word press site locates interviews with artist and locals, videos of works, information on Airds and an ongoing series of commissioned writings based on the social and political conditions of the area and responses to the artists’ projects. Rebecca was the sole writer in 2013 but this will be extended to include others for 2014.

David Cross – Sky Blind
Sky Blind is a participatory installation involving the development of a new sport. Teams of participants formed by the Airds community and others are invited to play a new sport wearing inflatable costumes. Sky Blind is a participatory art and sculptural work that seeks to challenge people to work together and crucially develop haptic skills that do not solely rely on vision.

Bindi Cole – Pop Up Portraits
Pop up Portraits is a temporary photography studio set in a shop at Airds Village Shops where audiences have the opportunity to get their portrait taken. Each photograph will be given as a gift to the audience and will be displayed in the Village Shops to create an evolving and growing exhibition of the local community.

Robert Guth – Mobile Cooking Hearth
A pop-top caravan re-modelled as a mobile communal-cooking hearth. Built by workers from the Airds Men’s Shed and the artist using private kitchens from 4 condemned houses. While cooking for the community, knowledge is collected relating to patterns of community involvement by various groups. Will be onsite during the event and used as meeting and info point.

Bennett Miller – The Myers Briggs All-Stars
The Myers Briggs All-Stars is a unique performance team made up of recruited local participants plus a series of sculptures that revolves around the use of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator personality test. An example of the test can be found here: http://similarminds.com/jung.html

Kate Mitchell – Future Fallout
Future Fallout is a single channel video artwork filmed in Airds. It involves a Psychic shop façade that acts as the backdrop to the video. The video is a reminder that the future is ultimately unknowable and uncertain. The Psychic shop façade could be included in the second phase of this project with the video work. An additional social component is being considered.
