I first encountered her work during the 2010 Next Wave festival at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, when she was curated into the bold Sports Club project. This was the perfect context for Bindi to deconstruct the myth about why black people are good at sports. Her infomercial ‘The AB Blaster’ is the result and pokes obvious fun/pun at the fit black male.

I was recently delighted to see this work again, but on the large drive in theatre screen at Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula, as part of video art program curated by Jared Davis for Aphids The Drive In Project.

Bindi has just completed a brief residency on site: more on this soon!
