Many of the residents of Airds continue to live with uncertain futures, as housing demolition and building is paused and \u00a0plans for the suburb are reconsidered by a new State government.<\/p>\n

But certainly, as the austerity of the Coalition budget wrecking ball carves up the most vulnerable in society, the future appears grim for many living in housing stress and dealing with unemployment, sickness or barriers to education.<\/p>\n

Temporary Democracy artist Kate Mitchell recently spent her residency time developing a single channel video titled the Psychic Shop. If the residents of Airds were to shop for a different future, would they come here?<\/p>\n

During Mitchell’s time in Airds she met an ex-con who shared his story with her including his new home, a tent in the surrounding bushland of Airds (incredulous, it seemed);\u00a0when it was time to leave, he pressed two stones into her hands and requested that she hold onto them for seven years. Even if the Psychic shop turns out to be just a facade, Mitchell is certain she will hold onto those stones.<\/p>\n
